La delegación local de Manos Unidas, daba lectura al manifiesto contra el hambre, en un acto que tuvo lugar en la Plaza Nueva. Junto al delegado de la Organización No Gubernamental de la Iglesia Católica en España, José Manuel Bujalance, intervinieron el alcalde de Lucena, Aurelio Fernández, el vicario de la Campiña, Jesús Moriana, catequistas y niños que reciben su confirmación y comunión.
En esta campaña, con el lema «Compartir es nuestra mayor riqueza», quieren hacer llegar a la sociedad española nuestro profundo agradecimiento por su solidaridad que está permitiendo mejorar las condiciones de vida de millones de seres humanos en el sur del planeta.
Pero como desgraciadamente muchos desafíos siguen pendientes, quieren seguir planteando la necesidad de que «la riqueza mundial» se ponga al servicio de la humanidad, para así erradicar definitivamente la pobreza, el hambre y la desigualdad de nuestro planeta.
Con este texto denuncian que aproximadamente 733 millones de personas pasan hambre en el mundo. 700 millones de personas viven en pobreza extrema con un ingreso de 2,15 dólares al día. 1200 millones de personas viven en una situación de pobreza multidimensional en 110 países del mundo, muchos de ellos en África Subsahariana y el sur de Asia. Más de 4 000 millones de personas no tienen protección social.
