La Delegación de Medio ambiente del ayuntamiento ha vuelto a poner en marcha un programa de control frente a la presencia de la paloma común en el municipio.
La falta de depredadores naturales en el entorno urbano, su adaptabilidad a la colonización del medio y su alta velocidad de reproducción, han provocado un nuevo crecimiento de este ave, cuyo exceso en individuos provoca un nuevo desequilibrio, que genera molestias, así como problemas higiénico-sanitarios que afectan, según donde se manifieste el exceso de población, directamente a la ciudadanía, edificio patrimoniales, públicos y privados, espacios libres …
Este control consiste en la administración de un pienso anticonceptivo de forma controlada a través de personal veterinario, así como empresas autorizadas y especializadas por parte de la Administración competente de la Comunidad.
La administración se produce de forma controlada a través de un dispensador, que en nuestro caso ha sido recientemente instalado en el Paseo de Rojas ( junto al palomar) el cual está automatizado y controlado para el suministro de alimento dirigido a la paloma.
El proceso es progresivo, de manera que, en un primer momento hay una fase de fidelización (entre uno y dos meses) donde se suministra el maíz tal cual, y se crea un hábito, al que una vez asumido por parte del ave, se le incorpora un fármaco, denominado Ovistop, cuyo principio activo la nicarbacina, utilizado para combatir la coccidiosi en las aves, ingerido en una dosis efectiva y controlada provoca unos efectos anticonceptivos, que una vez se deja de ingerir son perfectamente reversibles.
Mediante su aplicación pretendemos reducir alrededor de un 30% la población en un primer año, tras el cual se valorará los resultados obtenidos y por tanto la necesidad de mantener, o en su caso, interrumpir.
Junto a ello, el contrato formalizado con la empresa Tecpla, por un importe de 5.400 € llevará a cabo, en una primera instancia un censo poblacional, así como medidas de control tradicionales y complementarias, como la del palomar municipal, evitando las capturas innecesarias o la eliminación, permitiendo a su vez el control higiénico sanitario de la población, a la vez que una campaña de información y comunicación dirigida a la ciudadanía para fomentar prácticas respetuosas y de convivencia con este ave.
