El Papa Francisco ha nombrado a Mons. Mario Iceta arzobispo de Burgos

La Nunciatura Apostólica en España ha comunicado a la Conferencia Episcopal Española los nuevos nombramientos episcopales del Papa Francisco. El Sumo Pontífice ha nombrado a monseñor Mario Iceta arzobispo de Burgos.

Monseñor Mario Iceta ha sido obispo de Bilbao desde 2010. Mario Iceta Gavicagogeascoa nació en Gernika (Vizcaya), diócesis de Bilbao, el 21 de marzo de 1965. Es doctor en Medicina y Cirugía por la Universidad de Navarra (1995) y doctor en Teología por el Pontificio Instituto Juan Pablo II para los Estudios sobre el Matrimonio y Familia de Roma (2002). Es Máster en Gestión bancaria y de entidades de crédito por la Fundación Universidad y Empresa y por la UNED (1997).

El 16 de julio de 1994 fue ordenado sacerdote en la catedral de Córdoba, su diócesis de incardinación. El 5 de febrero de 2008 fue nombrado obispo titular de Álava y auxiliar de Bilbao. Recibió la consagración episcopal el 12 de abril del mismo año. El 24 de agosto de 2010 fue nombrado obispo de Bilbao, iniciando el ministerio el 11 de octubre del mismo año.

En la Conferencia Episcopal Española es miembro de la Comisión Ejecutiva y de la Comisión Permanente desde marzo de 2020. Ha sido vicepresidente de la Comisión Episcopal de Apostolado Seglar y presidente de la Subcomisión Episcopal para la Familia y la defensa de la Vida de 2014 a 2020. Era miembro de esta Subcomisión desde el año 2008.

Es fundador de la Sociedad Andaluza de Investigación Bioética y de la revista especializada “Bioética y Ciencias de la Salud” (Córdoba, 1993). Es miembro correspondiente de la Real Academia de Córdoba en la Sección de Ciencias morales, políticas y sociales (2006). Es miembro de la Academia de Ciencias Médicas de Bilbao (2008) y de la Real Academia de Medicina y Cirugía de Sevilla (2018).
